So... Can we know more about your food truck boys??

monsterbrush answered:

I’m glad you asked! I’ve actually given this concept some thought since its inception and I am eager to share!

First we got Crook (Crow-Cook, because I’m hilarious), he’s the chef/crew lead, and he’s almost as old as the Ace. He lived as a Crow Fisher before being captured and taken to the Citadel in the same raid that stole Furiosa from the Green Place. His grandmother was a chef in the Before Time and she passed her expertise on to him before she died. He became a War Boy and now uses his know-how to make their meals taste moderately less like crap. Why isn’t he working for Joe as a personal chef, or wherever it is they make the War Boys’ food? This is a Mad Max Food Truck, it already doesn’t make logistical sense, let me have this dream of an eatery on wheels in the apocalypse.

The Food Truck’s gunner is named Crosshair, he was born and raised in the Bullet Farm and was traded to the Citadel with a dozen other Bullet Farm Boys as a show of good faith from the Bullet Farmer to the Immortan. He is covered in crosshair scarifications as a testament to his skills as a marksmen, and he’s a good enough shot that he has his very own hunting rifle for keeps and a sling shot for shooting birds and lizards with rocks (his dream is to own a proper sniper rifle to snipe people from halfway across the wasteland, but those usually end up going to more important folks like Furiosa, and it wouldn’t do much good when he’s on a moving vehicle anyway but he can still dream). He also has his own elevated perch right above the driver, and he keeps little trinkets, rocks, ammo, and other homey things inside to decorate it and make it comfortable. His prized possession aside from his rifle is the treasured striped awning that he found and added himself.

The driver is an older fellow called Butch, he’s a former Wretched with an uncomfortable knowledge of preparing meat, using human waste as fuel for cooking fires, and juuuuuust enough of an accent to make other War Boys squint a little. He’s just there to drive the truck, don’t worry, or is he???

The Blackthumb responsible for rigging up the cooking and ventilation systems inside the truck is named Misfire, on account that when he was still just a pup he got thwacked in the head somethin’ awful and woke up with a stutter that never went away. He sticks close to the crew and avoids speaking to others because of this. He mostly maintains the ventilation, does repairs, cleans the cooking implements, manages meal orders from War Boys etc.

Crook’s sous-chef is called Grill, he was plucked up for supplemental training as an adolescent pup by the Food Truck’s crew and turned out to be a quick learner and natural chef. He helps Crosshair hunt birds and lizards, and assists Misfire with Blackthumb work and taking meal orders so Misfire doesn’t have to talk to anyone. He also helps Crook pluck, skin, clean, and prepare the food, and reassures everyone that Butch is not in fact doing any of the butchering, OR IS HE???

Crook supplements their crew with spare Blackthumbs and Lancers from time to time, and always brings a budding pup or two to give them some “on the road” experience because Crook, Grill, and Misfire need someone small enough to help keep the ventilation running without getting in the way. The truck usually drives on the Doof Wagon’s left hand side whenever the two rigs are sent out at the same time, and by now most experienced War Boys know a basic sign language for ordering on-the-go snacks when shouting can’t be heard over the engines. I’ve considered designing a supply truck that’s used to store excess food and water to go along with the Food Truck at some point because most of the Food Truck’s interior is dedicated to preparing meals and it would get very cramped if they had to carry all the food and water with them too.

When they’re not on the road the Food Truck and its crew are parked in the garages, providing tasty meals to the hardworking Blackthumbs and Revheads while they work. The truck gets its very own little alcove with the most efficient overhead ventilation so the cooking fires don’t suffocate anyone. Crook’s got a lot of friends so his truck has a steady stream of foodstuffs and aqua cola from the Citadel kitchens, and the crew maintains a few Cliffside gardens which is where they get most of their green stuff from. War Boys will either trade scrap and tools for a tasty meal, or they’ll bring their own foodstuffs for Crook to prepare.
